The Problem With New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s is approaching. 2023 will become 2024. Making New Year’s Resolutions is a popular thing to do at the end of the year. Here is a look at the problem with New Year’s resolutions.

The Problem With New Year’s Resolutions

Many People Do Not Keep Their New Year’s Resolutions

The main problem with New Year’s resolutions is that many never keep them. Someone may participate because their friends are making New Year’s resolutions. It is the thing that people do at the end of every year.

People do not stick to their resolutions because they are more of a social thing. As a result, it is just what people are told to do at the end of each year.

According to Forbes, most people fail to keep their New Year’s resolution by the third month. This is not surprising since, in the same article, Forbes writes, “62% say they feel pressured to set a new year’s resolution.” If someone feels pressured to do something, they most likely will not do it.

A person must want to actively choose to make a change, set a goal, and devise a plan. Resolutions are not goals.

Resolutions Are Not Goals

A resolution is different from a goal. The Wordnik Dictionary defines resolutions as “a firm decision to do something.” In contrast, Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines a goal as “the end toward which effort is directed,” an aim.

A New Year’s resolution is simply choosing to do something without an end in mind. There must be some aim or objective that one is working to complete. If it is abstract and without a process of achieving it, most people will not finish a short or long-term goal. For this reason, it is best to set goals.

Forget about having a New Year’s resolution this year. Instead, decide to set a goal.

Summary

The problem with New Year’s resolutions is that they are not goals. Goal setting is different from a resolution. A resolution is vague. A goal is an aim that a person is working to complete.

5 Reasons For The Growing Lack Of Self-Confidence In Young People

People have outsourced their critical thinking skills and self-responsibility to “experts” and “institutions.” The consequence is a decline in confidence. Here are five reasons for the growing lack of self-confidence in young people.

5 Reasons For The Growing Lack Of Self-Confidence In Young People

College

Young people were told they must go to college. This is a problem. Many alternatives to college continue to go unrecognized by society and parents. Some other options include learning the trade, working, and starting an online business.

The amount of attention that college receives is unbelievable. College consists of reading boring textbooks to take a quiz to please a professor. Employers then care more about what college people attended and their GPA than if they have the right skills to do a job. By studying for exams, people do not learn practical skills.

Hard skills are learned by doing something. They are not learned by reading from a stupid textbook and listening to a professor.

College creates insecure individuals by indoctrinating young people that a professor who has a Ph.D. knows more than them. Academics are the last people young people should learn from. Young people should learn from people with a proven track record of success in a field that interests them.

College was the 20th century way of learning. The 21st-century way is reading articles, watching videos, and purchasing digital courses from people with experience in a topic or skill you want to learn.

Personal Finance

Another problem is that many young people were never taught the basics of personal finance. There is a connection between financial instability and suicide. Financial success plays a critical role in developing self-confidence. Not everyone needs to become a millionaire to be financially free. Just do not have any debt to allow you to save and invest.

The problem is that the US dollar and the financial system are based on debt. Society encourages car loans, student loans, credit cards, mortgages, and living beyond your means to get people into debt. The goal is to get as many people into debt as possible.

Learn and follow the basics of personal finance:

  • Stay out of debt
  • Live below your means
  • Save money
  • Build an emergency fund
  • Once you have enough money saved, invest in tangible assets

Financial insecurity leads to uncertainty. Personal finance is foundational to a prosperous life. Follow essential personal finance principles, and you will be ahead of most people.

Comparing Themselves To People On Social Media

Social media contributes to low confidence because people constantly compare themselves to others on social media. They may see that someone received thousands of likes for a post. Another person may have a million followers. They may have seen an influencer post a photo or video of them on vacation and partying.

Turn off social media. Spend time outside. Focus on yourself. Work to reach goals. Invest in yourself. You will feel better and more confident once you stop comparing yourself to the people you see online.

Hustle Culture

Young people have been raised in the hustle culture. It is what they know. All that most people know is working multiple part-time and gig jobs. The consequence is the loss of stable employment. It is difficult to find traditional jobs that provide benefits from a pension to vacation days. It is now all about hustling every day.

Work with no days off. Work every day. Life has become work. Work is how many people think they discover meaning.

Find ways to leave the hustle culture. Start to focus on your strengths and find ways to monetize them. The wonderful thing about the 21st century is the variety of jobs that can be done online, even starting an online business.

Retirement

Retirement is becoming more of a pipe dream for many young people. Why? Many have already been priced out of being able to afford a home or the stock market and do not have enough saved for retirement. Many Americans do not even have enough money to cover an emergency.

A solution is to consider semi-retirement. This means still working when you are older. But you can work to build passive income streams beginning today. Those passive income streams can provide income by constantly appearing in your bank account.

Stop trading time, attention, and energy for active income. Work to build passive income streams to help you to semi-retire. A simple strategy like planning for semi-retirement can help boost confidence.

How To Develop Self-Confidence

In a world that feels like it is always against you and there is no way to get ahead, is there a way to develop self-confidence? Yes!

There are many ways to develop self-confidence. Focus on health, relationships, and increasing income.

Ways to pay attention to health include:

  • Being aware of portion sizes
  • Following a diet
  • Regularly exercising
  • Getting exposed to sunlight
  • Make sure to get enough sleep each night

Steps to improve relationships are:

  • Reconnect with old friends
  • Get to know people in your community
  • Spend time with family
  • Learn to enjoy time in solitude
  • Get to know your neighbors

Strategies to increase income are:

  • Work a weekend job
  • Start a side hustle
  • Discover ways to make passive income
  • Find ways to make money online
  • Start an online business

Practice self-responsibility. By accepting self-responsibility and setting goals daily, you will discover that you can do more than you were told. Set a schedule. Follow a to-do list. Complete short and long-term goals. Before you know it, you will be in a better position than you were before. You will also be happier.

Self-responsibility and investing in yourself by focusing on health, relationships, and personal finance are the secrets to building self-confidence.

Solo Thanksgiving Recipes

Roasted Turkey Leg

Are you a dark-meat person? Here is a slightly modified version of a roasted turkey leg recipe for one:

Ingredients

  • 1 celery stalk, cut into thirds
  • 1 turkey leg
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ cup of water, or as needed

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Rinse the turkey legs and pat dry.
  2. Stand the turkey legs upright (as if the turkey were standing). Press a knife down into the deep tissue, creating 2 or 3 long pockets. Press a piece of celery into each opening. Pull back the skin on the legs, rub it with butter, and season with a bit of salt. Put the skin back into place, rub with more butter, and season lightly with salt. Lay the turkey legs in a roasting pan.
  3. Roast uncovered for 1 1/2 to 2 hours until the legs are golden brown and the internal temperature is 180 degrees F (82 degrees C) when taken with a meat thermometer. Add more water if needed while roasting, and occasionally baste with the juices or butter.
  4. Roast until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the turkey leg meat reaches 165 degrees F (74 degrees C), about 1 hour. Cooking time may vary depending on the size of your turkey leg.

Easy-Baked Turkey Wing

Do you prefer wings to legs? Here is an easy-backed turkey wing recipe modified for one portion:

Ingredients

  • 1 turkey wing
  • ¼ quarter of a small onion, chopped (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon season salt
  • ¼ teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper or, to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon minced garlic
  • ½ cups water
  • 2 ounces can of cream of mushroom soup

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Place turkey wing and onion in a casserole dish; sprinkle with seasoned salt, poultry seasoning, black pepper, and garlic on both sides of the wing. Pour ¼ cup water into the casserole dish and cover.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until browned, about 1 hour.
  4. Stir cream of mushroom soup and ¼ cup water together in a bowl (or follow the directions on the can); pour over turkey wing in the casserole dish and return to the oven, uncovered.
  5. Continue baking until brown and tender, about 1 more hour.
  6. Roast until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the turkey wing reaches 165 degrees F (74 degrees C), about 1 hour. Cooking time may vary depending on the size of your turkey wing.

Oven-Roasted Turkey Breast

Are you more of a breast person? Here is an oven-roasted turkey breast recipe modified for one portion:

Ingredients

  • ½ cup softened butter
  • ½ clove garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon
  • Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon salt-free garlic and herb seasoning blend (such as Dash®)
  • Salt and ground pepper to taste
  • 1 turkey breast with skin
  • ½ teaspoon minced shallot
  • ½ tablespoon butter
  • 1 splash of dry white wine
  • ½ cup chicken stock
  • 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon half-and-half (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Mix 1/4 cup butter, garlic, paprika, Italian seasoning, garlic and herb seasoning, salt, and black pepper in a bowl. Place turkey breast with skin side up into a roasting pan. Loosen the skin with your fingers; brush half the butter mixture over the turkey breast and underneath the skin. Reserve the remaining butter mixture. Tent turkey breast loosely with aluminum foil.
  3. Roast in the preheated oven for 1 hour; baste the turkey breast with the remaining butter mixture. Return to oven and roast until the juices run clear, and an instant-read meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the breast, not touching bone, reads 165 degrees F (65 degrees C), about 30 more minutes. Let turkey breast rest for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
  4. While the turkey is resting, transfer the pan drippings to a skillet. Skim off excess grease, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the skillet. Place skillet over low heat; cook and stir shallot in turkey grease until opaque, about 5 minutes.
  5. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a skillet with shallot and whisk in white wine, scraping any browned bits of food from the skillet. Whisk in chicken stock and flour until smooth. Bring to a simmer, constantly whisking, until thickened. For a creamier, lighter gravy, whisk in half-and-half.
  6. Roast until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the turkey breast meat reaches 165 degrees F (74 degrees C), about 1 hour. Cooking time may vary depending on the size of your turkey breast.

  2. Spread onion, celery, and carrot pieces on the bottom of the bag. Rinse turkey thigh and pat dry with paper towels. Rub olive oil under the skin and on the outside of the thighs.

Make six slits in the top of the bag with a sharp paring knife. Place the pan in the oven, ensuring the oven bag does not touch the top heating element.
  4. Roast until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the turkey thigh meat reaches 165 degrees F (74 degrees C), about 1 hour. Cooking time may vary depending on the size of your turkey thigh.

How Singles Can Host A Super Bowl LV Party

Super Bowl LV is this Sunday. This year the Kansas City Chiefs will be going head-to-head against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Raymond James Stadium. Singles can find a way to watch the big game or host a Super Bowl Party. Being able to host parties and learning how to be a good host is an essential life skill that singles can master. Super Bowl LV is the perfect opportunity to learn how to host. Here are four ways singles can host a Super Bowl LV Party that your friends will enjoy during the big game!

How Singles Can Host A Super Bowl LV Party

Choose A Location For Your Super Bowl LV Party

The most important thing that any event requires is a location. Choose a location. It can be your apartment or house. It could also be at your favorite bar or restaurant. If there is no location, your guests do not know that there is an event or where to go. The Super Bowl LV Party can be held at your place, but if you do not have enough space, find a friend who wants to co-host and help you with the Super Bowl LV Party. You need a location that people can find to enjoy your awesome Super Bowl LV Party! Fill up the area with your friends, favorite people, and have fun during the game!

Host It Yourself

You can host the party yourself, or you can ask a friend to co-host the party. Choose the location that has the most space and the most prominent television to watch the game. After you have finalized a location, invite friends!

Talk With Your Friends

This is an opportunity for you to work on your social skills. As the Super Bowl Party host, you can work on the art of conversation. Welcome your friends and your guests when they arrive by complimenting them. The great thing about a Super Bowl Party you already have a topic for small talk: football. You can talk about the past football season, football history, football statistics, fantasy football, and who will likely win Super Bowl LV. Be nice. Be friendly. Focus on your nonverbal communication by making sure to show a big smile, open body language, and be receptive to communicating with your guests. Ask open-ended questions so that your guest talks more about themselves so that you do not dominate the conversation. Let your guests do the majority of the talking at the party. Keep the conversations as light and friendly as possible. People are attracted to positive discussions and positive people. You can use some simple strategies as the party host makes a list of stories, jokes, and talking points. You can work these into your conversations with your guests to make sure that all of the conversations are optimistic. Remember, it’s not about you. It’s about your guests!

Food

A party is no fun without food… and alcohol. That is especially true of a Super Bowl party. You will need to provide some light snack options that include chips, salsa, dips, poppers, and anything that is fried or stuffed. For the main course, buffalo wings, hamburgers, and hot dogs are classic options. You can also ask friends in your Super Bowl party invitation to bring an appetizer or a drink to your party. That will help you save some money by not purchasing all the food yourself for your Super Bowl LV Party. Don’t forget the drinks too!

Conclusion

Singles can host a Super Bowl LV Party. Singles should not be afraid to host events or gatherings because hosting is an important life skill. Enjoy Super Bowl LV this Sunday, and may the best team win!

How You Can Feel Empowered By Not Having A Valentine’s Day Date

You may feel that society deems single women as less than or incomplete for some reason. But being single is the opposite of weakness. Being single and not having a Valentine’s Day date this year can empower you immensely. After you read this article, you’ll be one of the select few who will know how to have the right mindset to be single and feel good about it.

How You Can Feel Empowered By Not Having A Valentine’s Day Date

Not settling for any old Valentine’s Day date means you have exceptional standards

You know you deserve the best life has to offer. There’s no reason to go out with just any old guy just to have a date on a specific day of the year. When you choose to be with someone, he’ll be the man that wants to be with you as much as you want to be with him. You won’t complete each other, you’ll complement one another

You don’t need to have a Valentine’s Day date with a man to be happy

Because you know having a relationship won’t make you happy. Especially if you rush into exclusivity with the wrong guy. You don’t need anyone to put a ring on it to smile every day. You can do this by your bad self. Valentine’s Day is the day to be elated that you’re not in a subpar relationship.

Independence is a good thing (you know this from your previous bad relationships)

Basing your life on depending on someone else isn’t what a strong woman like you needs. You’ve got this. You can pay your own bills, make your own dinner, and do whatever you want whenever you want it.

You get to make your own decisions

Any changes you want don’t need to be voted on by anyone else. If you’re going to buy a $300 la cruset pot, more power to you. You don’t need to ask permission to spend your own money. Life is in your hands. This freedom is something many women crave and don’t have.

Having a Valentine’s Day week doing what you want is a dream come true

Instead of having to get a rose that smells like every other flower in the shop (they spray them to feel like that you know!), you can get yourself a flower that smells like it’s supposed to. You can hug your friends and family and not feel obligated to have sex just because it’s one of the things you’re supposed to do for the Valentine’s Day romance department. When you’re in a relationship there are days you just don’t want to do it, and he wants to (all night long). Enjoy the sleep you’ll get!

The fact that you’re single means you are brave enough to be alone

There are people out there who don’t know what to do if they’re single. You’re not one of those folks. Not having a Valentine’s Day Date this year isn’t a big deal. It’s really just another day (that has some disturbing historical facts by the way). Enjoy your Valentine’s Day date this year— you. Because you’re worth it.
